We had an enjoyable trip to Asheville. On our way home, we took a short ride onto the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway closes portions due to snow and ice – although there was no snow or ice where we were, the higher elevations still have too much for safe travels. We were only allowed a short, seven mile ride and then returned to the interstate.
I am looking forward to Spring!! The temp was a little cooler when we were in Asheville so I had to wear winter-like clothes. In NC, we can have 40 degree days followed by 70 degree days, and then back to the 40s…we have to learn the skill of dressing in light layers. I found more mint sweaters that will be perfect for transitioning to Spring. The first lightweight sweater below would be great to wear over a simple t-shirt.
I bought the necklace after the holidays during a 60% off the reduced price sale at Loft. Above is a beautiful statement necklace that is available at Loft that will look nice with a variety of the Spring fashions.
Although we did not compete, we drove to Asheville to watch the Heritage Classic Dance Competition. The competition is almost a full week of dancing held at the Grove Park Inn. If you ever have a chance to just stop in the Grove Park to look around, you should. The views from the decks are spectacular and the interior is gorgeous.
We have not been to this competition in a couple years and I was hoping to make it this year. We had so much going on at home and work I was not sure we would take the time for the short road trip. My husband told me it was up to me. I have to admit that once I told him that Karina Smirnoff was performing he was much more interested! I also mentioned her partner, Slavik Kryklyvyy, but my husband didn’t care about that. Karina is absolutely beautiful so most men probably do not notice she is dancing with a partner when she is performing. I did not take many photos during the performances because I wanted to just watch and enjoy, and we were not seated in great spots for capturing good photos.
Ballroom dance competitions are fun and interesting to watch, especially for amateur dancers. I enjoy watching the pros compete in order to learn. Dancing is like any other hobby or sport – not only should we practice but we should also take pointers from those that make a living from the hobby.
I had a lazy day, looking through the Neiman Marcus Online Clearance Sale. Wow! There are some great deals! The sale is advertised as being up to 70% off regular prices.
I love looking at dresses of all lengths, style, and fabrics. I am wanting to buy a new gown for parties and fundraisers and there are many to choose from at this sale. Some of my favorites are below.
I usually try to stay away from wearing black dresses to events because so many other ladies wear black and I don’t want to blend into the crowd. Plus, I can look washed out in black. The two black dresses that I saved as favorites are more unique. I especially like the Black Halo column dress with illusion. The dress was originally priced at $800 and is now on sale for $280!
My favorite of the four is the long purple Halston Heritage. Of course, purple is my favorite color so I am naturally drawn to this dress. I also think the cut of the top would show my arms nicely and would overall be a great look.
Who has noticed the increase in newscasters and others using ‘look’ or ‘listen’ as the first word in responses? The use is not in a sentence such as “Look at the chicken crossing the street.” Instead, these words are used as if to tell the other person to stop and listen or to look at the speaker such as, “Look, I heard about a chicken crossing the street.” What?? Does this make any sense? Does this annoy anybody else? This is not just happening during interviews with average Americans. The use also occurs with educated people that are accustomed to daily televised banter and to being interviewed. For instance, watch the Today show. We could get drunk before work if we played the drinking game and had a sip every time a sentence began with look or listen. Chuck Todd must say it at least three times during each session. It really depends on how many times he is asked a question because he inevitably begins his response with, “Look, xxxx.”
With the political season serving as a highlight of each news show, there are multiple folks responding in such form. I can’t take it!!!
Who does not appreciate a warm, soft, and snuggly sweater? It never fails that I buy at least one conservative cardigan each winter when I see a great deal. You can never go wrong with such a staple. However, I also like to purchase more trendy sweaters as well. This season, I bought the Loft Grandpa Coatigan in Oatmeal in addition to several others.
I have found myself wearing this more than I expected. I bought this online during a sale around the holidays. It took over two weeks to arrive. When it was finally delivered, I wasn’t sure if I would keep it. I had ordered a Medium and was a little surprised how loose it fit. After wearing it the first time, I found the larger fit made the sweater quite comfy. I love having the big pockets – makes it easier to carry and retrieve my phone. The oatmeal version is not listed on the website anymore, but the Smoked Salmon is still available. I may buy this color to use as a Winter into Spring sweater.
